Adults, Nymph and Larva target: tortoises,

  dogs, hamsters, horses, hedgehogs and birds
DISEASES Tortoises: haemogregarina mauritanica, stepanovi
SIZE Females: 5.5-6.5 mm
  Engorged female: 20 mm
  Males: 3.8-5.6 mm
  Unfed Nymph: 1.4-1.8 mm

FEEDING HABIT Severe infestation causes infection
HOSTS Adults target domestic animals: sheep,
  cattle, dogs, deer, camels, horses
  Nymph and Larva target small wild
  mammals, lizards and birds
  Humans are mostly attacked by adult stages
DISEASES Dogs: Babesia canis
Cattle: Babesia ovis, Rickettsia aeschlimanii,
  R. Pathogenic (guinea pigs) and
  Crimean Congo Haemorrhagic fever (CCHF)
  Natural infections with Coxiella burnetii
  (Q fever conorii) are also seen
Horses: Babesia caballi, B. equi
